Coast casino revenue takes 9 percent jump in October

The 11 casinos in South Mississippi saw one of the strongest revenues of the year in October -- up 9 percent from a year ago, when there were 12 Coast casinos.

The strong performance was enough to give the state its second winning month of the year, when combined casino revenue was higher than the same month the previous year.

Even with the river casinos' revenue at $76 million, down $6 million from October 2013, the $167.0 million total state revenue beat the $165.5 million from last October.

The closing of Margaritaville Casino didn't do any damage to the Coast gross casino revenue in October, which the state Department of Revenue reported was $90.9 million, up more than $7 million from October 2013.

Year to date, Coast casino revenue is $15.6 million ahead of 2013.
